Troop 7 New Parent Information, Spring 2007

REGISTRATION

Fill out a Boy Scout application.  (Troop Application (PDF format - click here)Print it out and fill out the application along with the Class 1 Medical Information.  Return it along with a $50.00 check made out Troop 7.  This fee covers the dues for the remainder of this school year.  You may drop the registration form and check off at any Troop meeting or mail it to our Troop Committee chairperson, Marcia Literati, (Please e-mail Ms. Literati at tc@mytroop7.com for her address).

If your son doesn’t register this year, he may still attend overnight Troop 7 outings as a Cub Scout but, according to BSA rules, he must be accompanied by a parent.  The earlier you register, the sooner the Troop can begin to make your son an integral part of a specific patrol and the Troop.

ADVANCEMENT

The first steps in advancement are skill-based activities like first aid, knot tying and cooking a meal on a campout.  All the information needed to take these first steps is in the Boy Scout Handbook.  In the beginning, your son should focus on attending meetings and trips.  This is the best way for him to move through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class Scout and First Class Scout.

If your son attends summer camp, he will have the opportunity to work on advancement skills as well as merit badges.

SUMMER CAMP AT NOBEBOSCO JULY 22 – JULY 28

Summer camp is one of the most effective ways for your son to feel like part of the troop and to continue with scouting.

The fee this year will be $265 (checks made out to Troop 7).  Drop off or mail your non-refundable payment to Vicky Cornwell.  You can also bring it to the next Troop Meeting.

Your son will also need a Class 3 medical form. ( Official BSA Class 3 Medical Form (PDF)).  Just print it out and have your son’s doctor fill it out as necessary.  The medical form should be given to Vicky Cornwell as soon as you have it filled out.

Your son must be registered as a boy scout to attend summer camp.

As always, we need adult volunteers to join the scouts at camp.  At least two adults from the Troop must be present at all times.  You do not have to stay the entire week.  Contact Bob Potter, Summer Camp Scoutmaster, to find out more about adult volunteer opportunities at camp.  Adult volunteers will also need a Class 3 Medical Form.
