Calendar Items:

12/15   7:00 pm Troop Meeting
There is a Troop meeting this week but we are unable to use Hess Hall, our usual meeting space, at the church.  We'll find another spot to meet and we'll post a sign on the Hess Hall doors so you'll know where to go.

Additional notices:

Family Life and Personal Management Merit Badge Group Classes
Next Meeting 12/15 at 6:30 pm

Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Troop merit badge classes.

Here's a check list of what you can work on for our next meeting.  Most of you should, with hard work, be able to finish the requirements for both badges by that meeting!

Family Life
#2 Have you followed up on this discussion with your parents?

#3 When you complete your 90 day chart of chores, please send or give it to Mrs. Drury or Mrs. Ladd.

#4 and #5 Have you planned and completed your projects?

#6 Have you planned and completed your family meeting?  Please do so by our next meeting.

#7 Have you held the discussion with your father about his ideas on being a parent and comparing them with your own?

Personal Management
#1 Have you completed your plan?

#2 When you complete your 90 day chart of weekly expenses, income, savings, etc. please send to Mrs. Drury or Mrs. Ladd.

#3 - 7 If you've participated in all of our classes, you have completed these requirements.

#8 This is your assignment for our next meeting.

Our next meeting will be December 15 at 6:30.  We know many of you have a Ridgewood High School Band Concert that evening.  Don't worry though, you'll be able to make up the work at the meeting in January. (see below)

Also, please put 6:30 on January 12 on your calendars for a make-up session. We won't have a structured class on that night, but Mrs. Drury, Mrs. Ladd and Mr. Wright will be at the church before the PLC that night to work with anyone who has final requirements they are prepared to have signed off.

For project approvals or any questions, please contact Mrs. Drury  or Mrs. Ladd  treasurer@mytroop7.com

Summer Camp 2006
We're looking at going to NoBeBoSco July 9th thru July 15th.  NoBe is a great place to go for getting some merit badges, like swimming, first aid and camping, completed.  Boys who are going to camp Rodney in August can go to NoBe first to complete the small boat sailing merit badge.  I know it's early but please reply via email if you think you might be interested.  We also need to have 2 adults with the scouts during the week.  How many adults are able to help out?  We can split the week and you can stay at camp for 3 to 4 nights

Popcorn Sale Update

A big thank you to all the scouts and their families who participated in the sale.  Many of you were not excited by this sale so your hard work is appreciated!  A special thank you to Mrs. Bassler, fundraising chair, who guided us all in our efforts.  Twenty Troop 7 scouts participated and the Troop sold $3200 of popcorn -- which exceeded our goal.

Congratulations to Patrol 2, Carson's patrol, who sold the most popcorn. They sold over $1500 which is almost 1/2 the entire sale.  They win the pizza dinner!

Troop 7 earned approximately $1000 which is about what would have been raised with 2+ car washes!  Just remember, since the weather is undependable; always have a back-up plan.  What's that saying? Be prepared....

But just as important as earning money for the Troop, $1000 was raised for our Council.  With only a car wash, there would be no money to donate to the council.  As a Troop, it is important to support the Northern New Jersey Council which provides many important services like camps NoBeBoSco and Floodwood.

Communications

Scouts, if you are unsure about meeting times or events, you should call your patrol leader.

Patrol Outing News

By Watson
Ladd, Troop Scribe
Date: Nov. 20, 2005

On the ninteenth Ricki's patrol went on a ten mile hike along the Appalachian and State Line trails.  After reaching the Appalachian we walked to the state line and took a photo.  Nemo, the golden retriver Mr. Ladd brought along, stood in New York and New Jersy.  Nemo would do an estimated 25 miles that day, running up and down the line.
After the state line we put our packs back on and began walking down the Appalachian Trail. Many puddles and swamps lay in our path.  During a crossing of a small stream Watson steped on what appeared to be a solid branch, hidden by leaves.  Splosh! The "branch" was a mass of floating twigs.
Nemo immidiatly volentered to get Watson wetter, running over to push Watson over the dam into the stream beyond.  Watson leapt to dry ground as Nemo ran up ahead.
Eventually we reached the shelter where we had lunch: Soup and trail mix. The shelter was in very good condition.  After lunch we began walking down the trail and Nemo found his lunch: A dead mouse.  After getting Nemo to drop the dead mouse we waited ten seconds, and he forgot about it. (Talk about short-term memory!)  We walked over two bridges tied down to prevent floods from pushing them down river.
Finally we reached Pinwheel point and began our descent, a path filled with switchbacks worthy of Philmont.  At the end we looked up and saw a huge rock that should be the "Mount Rushmore of New Jersy". After that high point we rode home, picking up the other car on the way.

The Time is NOW
to Register for New Troop Year

By Mrs. Cornelie Ladd, Troop Treasurer & Membership Chairperson
Date: Sept. 20, 2004

All Scouts in Troop 7 need to complete the annual registration process to participate in the 2005-2006 Troop 7 Scouting program.

The registration process involves the following steps:

  1. Submit a check for the annual Troop 7 dues (see below), together with a BSA Class 1 & 2 medical form to Cornelie Ladd at the address below.  The BSA Class 1 & 2 medical form can be downloaded from the Troop 7 website by clicking this link or by going to www.myTroop7.com: click on “MyHandbook,” then on “Forms Here!”  Please note that Scouts who submitted a BSA Class 3 form in June or July do not need to send in a Class 1 & 2 form.
  1. Visit the Troop 7 Website.  Complete the on-line parent survey.  Please also update your driver information

Registration for 2005/2006 is overdue!

Please note that for insurance purposes, all vehicles transporting Boy Scouts to and from activities must be registered with the Troop.  The Parent Survey seeks to identify parents’ interests in the various activities that are included in the Scouting experience.  We encourage you warmly to join us in volunteering your time and talents for the benefit of our Troop.

ANNUAL DUES:  Dues for next year have been maintained at $ 100 per Scout.  Next year’s program will be posted soon on the Troop 7 website.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Chair of the Troop 7 Parent Committee, Mrs. Marcia Literati, at tc@mytroop7.com or by phone.

Here Are the Rules for
Star & Life Service Requirements

By  Mr. Bill Commer, Scoutmaster

With summer upon us, many of you who either First Class or Star Scouts may be thinking it would be a great time to complete your service requirements for the Star or Life ranks.

While it is perfectly fine if you want to kick back this summer and get a fresh start in September, we just wanted to be sure that each of you is aware of the rules in Troop 7 for completing your Star and Life service requirements. The rules are the same whether you start on your service project now, or wait until September.

For Star:

  •  Six (6) hours of community service after you have attained the rank of First Class;

  •  At least two (2) hours must be in an independent community project (outside of such planned Scout activities as someone's Eagle project, our annual fundraisers, and the regular troop community service events).

You'll need to identify, plan and lead the project.. Some project ideas might be to organize and lead a two-hour (2) volunteer effort for your patrol at the Y, or the Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Council, or at the Library. There's plenty of work that needs doing around town, so we're sure you'll be able to find something to do for the community.

    After you've given some thought to what you might want to do, your next step must be to contact Mr. Commer. He'll be able to help you work out your ideas and build your project plan;

  •   The remaining four (4) hours can be either an independent project, or such planned Scout activities as helping on someone's Eagle project, cleanup duty at the Memorial Day Parade, etc... ; and

  •  All community service must be reviewed and approved by Scoutmaster Commer in advance of doing the service work. Work that Mr. Commer has not approved will not be counted as service hours at either your Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review.

For Life:

  •   Six (6) hours of community service after you have attained the rank of Star;

  •  At least three (3) hours must be in an independent community project outside of such planned Scout activities as someone's Eagle project, our annual fundraisers, and the regular troop community service events).

You'll need to identify, plan and lead the project.. Some project ideas might be to organize and lead a three-hour (3) volunteer effort for your patrol at the Y, or the Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Council, or at the Library.
